    Description

Stangl Pottery Pebblestone Tray Dish Artware Mauve Oval Rare Very Good Condition
This stunning Art Ware Mauve Pebblestone Stangl tray/dish is approximately 4-3/4" wide, 11-1/4" long and 1-1/2" tall.
The Pebblestone pattern was produced by Stangl from 1972 to 1973 only.  It was giftware created by Stangl designers and individually hand crafted and hand decorated by Stangl artists.  The pebblestone artware finish was introduced as a lamp finish in 1965 but was used infrequently. Pebblestone was brought back as an artware finish in 1972 in response to the naturalistic decorating trend of the early 1970s.  Pebblestone had actually been developed by prolific Stangl designer, Kay Hackett, more than 10 years earlier, it simply took that long for decorating fashion to catch up with her genius.  The finish was created by sponging silk glaze over the metallic oxide based colors of Art Ware Green, Art Ware Blue and Art Ware Mauve. The intermittent puddling and pooling of the sponged silk glaze creating the pebbly texture of pebblestone.  The interiors were glazed with satin black glaze. The pebblestone finish was discontinued by January 1973, so very short lived.
This vintage estate sale find is in very good condition with the Stangl Trenton NJ hallmark on the bottom.
