    Description

Portola Jr. High School 1958. It's the time and place where Creedence Clearwater Revival originated. It was in this El Cerrito school that John Fogerty, Doug Clifford and Stu Cook formed a band called the Blue Velvets. This fateful meeting would result in one of the greatest rock bands America has ever produced. A classic American success story. A few little kids with big dreams, growing up in a small suburb without much money (John Fogerty bought his guitar and amp with a loan from his mother and paid it back by delivering newspapers.) and achieving fame and fortune, rising to the top of artistic greatness, through hard work, perseverence, vision and talent. I believe that the opportunities afforded by an individual's environment also play an important role in determining the success of an individual. The yearbook that I'm selling serves to recall the environment that produced the Creedence Clearwater revival legacy. It measures 8 and 1/2" long X 5 and 3/8" tall X 1/4" thick. It's a paperback bound with two staples. The cover is loose from the staples. All of the pages are firmly stapled together. There are two small holes in the center of the cover, where it had been stapled. The book has a bend to it. The front cover has soiling and a name, written in the bottom, right corner. All of the autographs and inscriptions are confined to the blank pages for autographs, except two names, each written on a different page of group photographs. There's no autographs or inscriptions by the band members, who were in the 7th. grade, in this yearbook. There are 10 pages of 7th grade class photos. Doug Clifford is in class 124, shown holding the 124 sign. His face is above the 1. John Fogerty is in class 126, shown holding the 126 sign. His face is directly above the 6. I could not find Stu Cook in the class photos. There are pages of 8th. and 9th. graders, staffers and club members as well. Some pages have comic illustrations printed on the margins. Thanks go to a former classmate of the band members, for helping me identify them.
