    Description

The dolphin box is catalog item # 856, produced from 1936 to 1940 in a variety of colors and metals. This one is of course Red plastic with a chrome cover and red dolphin figure. Here is the text from the catalog: “A clever inexpensive box that’s good for cigarettes (it holds forty!) or miscellaneous articles on a dressing table or writing desk. A beautifully modeled little dolphin forms the handle and is matched in color by the fluted composition base.” It is 3 ¾” long, 3” wide, 1 5/8” high. The condition of the box is good to very good. No cracks. 3 flea bit chips on the rim which are out of sight with the cover on. 3 fleabite chips on the bottom edge and one on the side, hardly noticeable. There are some ½” round faint circles that show on the side and bottom. On the top is a small ‘splash (?) mark which is either some material on the chrome, or there is brass showing thru the chrome, not sure. There are some tiny dents on the surface of the top and some other tiny tool marks near the dolphin which originate on the bottom of the cover. In the photos it looks like the edges of the box may be brass, but that is not the case, it is just reflections of something of that color. Edges are all nice chrome. It has the Chase mark on the side of the cover.
