These License Plate Key Chain Tags were issued by the Disabled American Veterans Association from late 1941 through 1975. They were mailed unsolicited to the registered owners of automobiles. Mailings included return address cards with which a contribution could be made to the Vets.  Each tag had a facsimile of the owners license plate on the front and on the back instructions that if the keys were lost the finder could drop them in any mailbox. The back included the
Veteran's Association
address. If keys were returned, the veterans would send them back to the owner of the plate numbered on the tag.  The privacy laws of 1975 made license plate listings no longer available to the public and thus ended the program.
